It is important to remember that hypnosis is about working with a qualified hypnotist to get into a deeply relaxed and concentrated state of mind--not an unconscious one. You are always aware and in control, allowing the hypnotist to help facilitate changes and insights that you want to make by learning mind-body skills and uncovering internal blocks and conflicts.
Hypnosis is not a substitute for traditional mental healthcare or standard physical healthcare. Persons wishing to explore hypnosis as a supportive adjunct to current healthcare for a medical or mental health condition should speak to their physicians about whether hypnosis may a good option for adjunctive care.
